Automated Lighting

Smart Lighting

The Ketra experience is like having your lighting designed by an Oscar-winning cinematographer.

A cafe interior lit by a faceted timber ceiling, each cell of it separately illuminated.

Why choose smart lighting

Light influences everything you see in a home or commercial space. It determines how colors appear, how materials and textures are perceived, and how a room looks and feels throughout the day. Even the most beautifully designed interiors can lose their impact under poor-quality lighting.

The difference between ordinary lighting and truly exceptional lighting is the difference between mediocrity and luxury.

Conventional LED lighting often struggles with accurate color rendering, offers only a fixed color temperature, and may flicker or dim unevenly. Advanced architectural lighting systems, such as Lutron Ketra, deliver exceptional color rendering that brings fabrics, finishes, artwork, and furnishings to life—much as they appear in natural sunlight. With smooth dimming that fades gracefully to black and tunable white light that transitions from warm to cool throughout the day, lighting becomes an integral part of the design experience.

But the benefits extend far beyond the quality of light.

Cleaner Architecture, Less Wall Clutter

Traditional lighting requires banks of switches and dimmers that compete with the interior design. Intelligent lighting replaces these with elegant, discreet keypads that control individual fixtures, entire rooms, or customized lighting scenes. Available in low-voltage and wireless configurations, these controls preserve clean walls and complement the architectural vision.

Smarter Wiring, Less Labor

With compatible digitally controlled fixtures, wireless communication eliminates the need for traditional control wiring between switches and individual lights. Fixtures can be connected through streamlined power-distribution layouts, reducing unnecessary copper, complex switch legs, and installation labor. The result is a more efficient electrical infrastructure with fewer compromises to the design.

Complete Flexibility, Today and Tomorrow

Unlike traditional lighting, where zones are permanently determined by electrical circuits, intelligent lighting allows fixtures to be grouped and regrouped through software. Want to rearrange furniture, change the function of a room, or create a new lighting scene? Lighting zones can be reconfigured without rewiring.

This makes intelligent lighting particularly valuable for evolving homes, flexible offices, and dynamic environments where the way a space is used may change over time.

Exceptional lighting doesn't simply illuminate beautiful design. It reveals it, enhances it, and brings it to life.

Architectural fixtures

Architectural downlights

Precision downlights for quiet ceilings and glare-free light. Shallow housings, field-changeable optics and deeply regressed light engines put the light exactly where it is needed — on the art, the architecture and the work surface — without bright spots overhead.

Linear tape lights

Flexible LED tape and linear channels give continuous, unbroken lines of light. Ideal under cabinets, along toe-kicks, in tray ceilings and in custom millwork, adding depth and warmth to a room.

Embedded fixture technology

The control driver is built into the fixture itself, so it communicates directly with the control processor. No external driver boxes, a simpler installation, and smooth, flicker-free dimming.

Lutron's three fixture families

Ketra

Full-spectrum light that follows natural daylight, with color and a Vibrancy mode that brings out art and finishes, and dimming that fades smoothly to black. The right choice wherever art or materials are on show.

Rania

The same form factor as Ketra, strictly tunable white, without the color channels. Most clients choose tunable white anyway, so Rania covers most of the house at a lower price.

Lumaris

Tunable linear light for coves, shelving, millwork and under cabinets, at an even lower price point, while staying within the parameters of high-quality light.

Mixed, for the right budget

Ketra where the art is, Rania everywhere else, Lumaris in the millwork. In a Lutron cost study, a project blending all three came out on par with, or below, a traditional lighting system once dimming equipment and electrical labor were counted, and it needed fewer lighting panels.

Questions to ask before choosing fixtures

Color rendering (CRI)

What are the CRI and R9 values? A CRI of 90 or higher keeps colors natural and vibrant, and a high R9 renders deep reds, wood grain and skin tones accurately.

Color uniformity

Are the fixtures specified within a 2-step or 3-step MacAdam ellipse? That keeps adjacent downlights and linear runs from showing visible color shifts.

Dimming performance

Do the fixtures dim smoothly all the way to black? Premium lighting solutions deliver smooth, flicker-free dimming without the abrupt shutoff common in LEDs

Color temperature

Does the system support warm dim or tunable white? Adjustable color temperature follows the day, from crisp white light down to a warm 1800K amber in the evening.

System reliability

How reliable is the manufacturer's ecosystem? Premium lighting needs robust hardware backed by long-term support, field service and proven wireless stability.

Introducing the peak experience of home and commercial lighting systems.

  • Intensity, Color, StimulusImagine your home or office actively caring for you throughout the day! With circadian lighting, your lighting system is programmed to adjust intensity and color, mimicking natural light patterns. This not only enhances your well-being but also regulates the harmful blue light from screens. Experience the benefits of a space that adapts to your needs, promoting a healthier and more productive environment.
  • Work, Productivity, FlowExperts are finding out just how much your lighting affects productivity, focus, and alertness. The right light can boost your performance and keep you in the flow.
  • The Right Light For The Right LookMost will get ready for a night out with flat lighting that can make skin tone and outfits look washed out and drab. Ketra can help you see the full effect of your look in the right light, no matter what the occasion.
  • Any Color For Every EventMatch your scene to the action. Your team’s logo for watch parties, a favorite color for a seasonal theme. The options for a custom color experience are endless.
  • Programmable for any mood, time of day, or special event.Ketra creates scenes that evoke richness, intimacy, and sophistication. Enjoy optimized, automatic lighting for casual, work, and play throughout the day.

Intimate, Muted, and Elegant

Whether you’re winding down or gently bringing up your energy in the morning, picture your lighting knowing the exact time for your moods.

Human Centric Lighting

Human Centric Lighting syncs with our internal clock, adjusting light intensity and color to match natural daylight patterns from morning to night. Studies show that tuning our lighting to these natural rhythms enhances our well-being, mimicking and extending the benefits of natural light in our spaces. Without a lighting system capable of producing these effects automatically throughout the day, human centric lighting would be very difficult to produce consistently. That’s why we use the combination of Ketra lighting systems, the Lutron shading system, and the Homeworks control system to produce effortless human centric lighting on autopilot.

How it is controlled

The fixtures are run by the control system: keypads, the app, a schedule or your voice. How that system is chosen and set up is covered on the Control Systems page.
